Vocabulary Plan- Reading Classes
THIS IS NOT ACCURATE FOR THE 2013-2014 SCHOOL YEAR. STAY TUNED!!!

Students in ALL reading classes will be assigned vocabulary. Here is the general plan we will use for each unit. NOTE: This plan is subject to change.

Beginning 2**
  1. Students will complete the Knowledge Rating Checklist.
  2. Students may complete a pre-test.
  3. Students will be introduced to the lesson’s 10 vocabulary terms.
    1. Go over part of speech (P.O.S), definition(s), and sample sentences.
    2. Create flashcards (word, P.O.S., definition ONLY)
    3. The teacher will focus on 5 of the 10 vocabulary words.
      1. The teacher will complete the Concept of Definition Map for 2 of the 5 vocabulary words.
      2. The students will complete terms 3-5 using the Concept of Definition Map for homework.
      3. The teacher will focus on the remaining 5 vocabulary words.
        1. The teacher will complete the Concept of Definition Map for 2 of the 5 vocabulary words.
        2. The students will complete terms 3-5 using the Concept of Definition Map for homework.
        3. Complete Exercise 1 in class. Review answers.
        4. Complete Exercises 2-3 for homework.
        5. Go back to flashcards and add synonyms and antonyms.
        6. Complete Exercise 4.
        7. Complete Lesson Review Exercise.
        8. Take final test.


Quizzes (announced or unannounced) will be given at the teacher’s discretion.

Beginning 3 and Developing**
  1. Students will complete the Knowledge Rating Checklist.

  3. Students will be introduced to the lesson’s 15 vocabulary terms.
    1. Go over part of speech (P.O.S), definition(s), and sample sentences.
    2. Create flashcards (word, P.O.S., definition ONLY)
    3. Create illustrations to represent vocabulary words (optional).
    4. The teacher will focus on 5 of the 15 vocabulary words.
      1. The teacher will complete the Concept of Definition Map for 2 of the 5 vocabulary words.
      2. The students will complete terms 3-5 using the Concept of Definition Map for homework.
      3. The teacher will focus on the next 5 vocabulary words.
        1. The teacher will complete the Concept of Definition Map for 2 of the 5 vocabulary words.
        2. The students will complete terms 3-5 using the Concept of Definition Map for homework.
        3. Students will complete the Concept of Definition Map on the remaining 5 vocabulary words.
        4. Complete Exercise 1 in class. Review answers.
        5. Complete Exercises 2-3 for homework.
        6. Go back to flashcards and add synonyms and antonyms.
        7. Complete Exercise 4.
        8. Complete Lesson Review Exercise.
        9. Take final test.
